When I first found the X-Men, it was with the '90s cartoon, which I was pleased recently to discover was also where a number of the current creators/writers/artists/etc who are actually working for Marvel today got their start of loving the X. :) (If you haven't checked it out yet, there is a wonderful new Uncanny X-Men series running with Gambit and Rogue leading what's likely to turn out to be the next generation of X-Men, not unlike Sean and Emma did back in my day with Generation X. This was one of the two subscriptions hubby gifted me with for our sixth anniversary, and I've loved every issue. In one of the recent issues, they had a column where they were asking the current team where they first encountered the X-Men, and I was tickled at how many responses resounded with my own past experiences. :))

Most people think that Jubilee was my favorite in the beginning, and she IS one of my favorites and was one of my first favorites. She was even the second character who I RPed as, and part of the first pseudonym under which I started really becoming active in fandom. But the FIRST X-Woman to catch my attention was Storm. (Beast was the first character to draw my attention, if anyone might be interested, with Ororo being the second. I even had a Storm and Beast birthday cake one year. :)) Back in the day, we didn't have that many POC characters, and even less that were well written and/or with a respect for animals and Mother Nature. We didn't have enough characters with a respect for the latter, period. (Yes, I know, looking back now, we did have A LOT of pro-Environmental/animal rights cartoons back in the day, but still, this is from the eyes of a kid. A lonely kid, might I add, who desperately wanted Charles Xavier to discover she was a mutant. LOL :))

Ororo "Storm" Munroe BLEW ME AWAY. I couldn't get enough of her, but it took me a long time before I thought myself worthy of writing her. In my eyes, she was a regal and intelligent character, a matriarch who knew that her place may not be as a goddess amongst men but it WAS to protect, mother, lead, and guide those who had never had a good inspiration in their lives as a parental figure or role model. I don't want to talk about Halle Barry's failure as the character, or about the mess they've done with her since Wakanda and T'Challa, which could have been handled SO much better. Her place is not on Mars, or in Krakoa, or even in Africa. Her place is with the family of her heart, the X-Men. Much as I say screw Elvis as the King of Rock and Roll (my music King will forever be Bowie <3), I say screw Jean Grey. STORM is the First Lady of the X-Men!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please note that the following is VERY image-filled (heavy loading) and still under construction! This text will disappear once this post is "finished", but I'm probably going to return to it at later dates to add stuff. :)
